first update! woohoo!!!! site is almost complete for now, i’ve set up almost everything i was hoping to. ngl i had to compromise a lot of my vision for the site due to the limitations of website making. i’m no coder that’s for sure.
life’s been weird for awhile, i feel like i just keep pushing to make this comic happen, but my own life or shortcomings keep me from finishing it faster. thankfully, an incomplete website isn’t one of those reasons anymore! i’m always holding myself back, mostly because of the quality of my work. i worry about “does this look right?’ or “i can do better than this-” a lot. i dunno, thats something i need to work on.
a lot about my tastes and influences have changed since i first started this comic. i got back into a lot of the music my grandparents would listen to, especially my abuelita and opa. i don’t think she spoke portuguese, i believe my abuelita picked the records of music i’m thinking of up off the side of the road like most things she had that didn’t make a lot of sense. sometimes i worry that my tastes now don’t align with the aesthetics of the comic, but the whole alternate world inside the comic doesn’t revolve around the street-art aspect of it, so i should be ok. it’s also bled into how i’ve approached drawing and designing the world and characters. jsrx was always based on the ccc comic by vinnie veritas, but it’s started to lean elsewhere after i read tekkonkinkreet by taiyo matsumoto. i already had so many elements in my comic that mirrored tekkonkinkreet it’s almost eerie. i might talk about it more later, but for now i just need to focus on getting this first issue done.
i’m so close to being done with issue 1, but i’m also nervous about issue 2. i haven’t really started on it yet, and even with issue 1 i have been spending most of my time doing commissions. my computer has also been acting out lately, so i’ve been triple nervous. i juts hope eveything turns out ok…
