i finished the written portion of iSSUE 2 CHAPTER 1 today, and i’m feeling a lil nervous about it. i’m not sure if it’s my strongest piece of writing, mostly due to the worry of everyone i write sounding the same. it’s hard for me to not talk in one of three voices:
1: customer service ass voice. the one i use for work and general interactions with people older than me or people i don’t know that well.
2: violently californian, with the accompanying slang of ‘dude’ and ‘bro’ and ‘like’ with a bit or ‘literally’.
3: uber-sperg. take a wild guess.
i’m sure it’s not as bad as i think it is, but it still worries me. with little quips or parts of dialogue that are supposed to be more humorous or earnest, i sometimes catch myself using the same sentence structures/words i would use. how am i not supposed to though?! how does a person speak their own thoughts without a piece of themselves ending up embedded in the words of their mouthpiece? and i’m not saying that to be a smartass, i know it’s doable. i’m just shit at it, at the moment at least. nobody likes it when someone boo-hoo-poor-me’s and puts themselves down, but i also think it’s important to recognize your own faults and not shy away from them. i’m never gonna improve if i don’t acknowledge it, and now that i have, i can start taking the steps to improve my skillset. saying it out loud and to others also holds me accountable for making that change, and keeps me on my toes for lack of a better word.
trying to incorporate the original “ACT 2” into iSSUE 2 has been surprisingly fun. its like a reinterpretation of a reinterpretation, and i like the challenge. i’m trying hard to make everything fit together, and it seems like it’s mostly working for the time being. it’s gonna get hectic once i get near the end of CHAPTER 1, since i’m planning on keeping it contained 5 iSSUES and that might not be enough space to fit in everything from the original 5 “ACTS”. i’ll just hope for the best for the time being.
